The Alternative flagship store at 1337 Abbot Kinney welcomes visitors and locals alike with its refreshing take on sustainable fashion
No trip to Venice is complete without a leisurely stroll down Abbot Kinney, which is diversely peppered with high-end boutiques, restaurants, and galleries mixed with local designers, vintage shops, and Greenpeace activists. On yesterday’s trip I was delighted to discover the Alternative brand flagship store, with its bright and airy atmosphere to perfectly house the equally relaxed, light-weight products.
Their fresh and easy yet eco-friendly Alternative Earth pieces for men and women can be found mixed in throughout the store. The Alternative Earth line is part of a current “Buy a Tee, Plant a Tree” campaign, in which Alternative will plant a tree for every item sold from the line through Earth Day. With tanks ranging from $24-$30, hoodies $25-$60, and pants $34-$50, this is an easy way look good while being a conscious consumer and enjoying the relaxing shopping experience while you are at it.

Alternative offers local products including Soaptopia natural handmade soaps that are Eco- and Vegan-friendly. Also available are Proof wooden sunglasses that are hand-made, sustainable, and really well designed! The Ontario wayfarer are on my wishlist at a reasonable $115.00.
Odina Eco-surf Swimsuits are made of recycled, reclaimed, and organic fabrics and are perfect for the beach-bound by beach-cruiser girls of Venice.
I was already excited about this Falling Whistles necklace even before I learned the proceeds support a campaign for peace in Congo. Check out the Falling Whistles website to order yours or pick one up from Alternative if you are in the LA area to help the children of the Congo to be evacuated and be a “Whistleblower for Peace.”
I loved the idea of these hands-free modern Grow Bottle herb gardens for the modern gals that do not want to muddy their manicures.
Rows of potted succulents welcome you in to the store and set the feel for the abundance of greenery you will find in and around the shop. One open door leads to a back porch with product displays on refurbished wood and metal fixtures, while another leads to a cozy, quiet garden. Its easy to see how the store doubles as event space for Alternative as well.
