Uncommon Goods:  Sustainably Fresh Picks

by KIM VILYUS

It can be challenging and time-consuming for the conscious consumer to cut through the fluff that is the interweb in search of attractive, quality products  that we can actually stand behind.  Low and behold I happened upon Uncommon Goods, a shimmering light amongst the roughage, in the course of my tireless e-searching.

Based out of NYC, Uncommon Goods is a business that puts sustainability, eco-friendly, and social responsibility at the the forefront.  Their mission of serving up the most interesting handmade, recycled, and organic items is ensured through their collective of artists’ and designers’ innovative techniques and materials. This Certified B Corporation has a perfectly curated mix of gadgets, games, and growbottles for him, her, and the home. From living wall planters and reclaimed wood coffee tables to stainless steel wallets and wood watches, there is no shortage of eco-chic pieces to fill your cart.

Being the over-accessorizer that I am, I was of course instantly attracted to the jewelry section.  Suspended gold druzy nuggets, recycled ruby pendants, and custom beach sandbar rings had my eyes poppin.   It took a minute for me to narrow my selection to 2 pieces from Brooklyn-based Emilie Shapiro, a Pamela Love protege,  who using recycled metals and stones produces one of a kind items. I couldn’t resist the Amethyst Stalactite Slice Ring and Emerald Mosaic Necklace, both set in brass and handmade in NYC.

I was so pleased with the items upon arrival, that I immediately whipped out my laptop to continue scouring the site for eccentric items for my new abode.  I wait with eager anticipation to see my new room adorned with Insta-worthy, Vegan-friendly pieces I can be proud to post.
