Along the way I have found many items that are made with cork. At first, I was confused and thought that cork was harvested from trees and was harming our precious planet Earth. I kept seeing companies and people using the terms Eco-friendly and Sustainable when talking about cork products, so I dug a little deeper. I was pleasantly surprised that it is indeed a great sustainable product and can be made into trendy and vegan friendly items.
CoolCorc is a company that has made a great axample of how you can turn cork into something that is fashionable. Above is their large cork clutch. This clutch is a favorite of mine that I carry everywhere with me! It is extremely soft, durable, water proof and holds just about everything. I won’t say “kitchen sink”, :)!
I came across this small store on Etsy.com called Uncorked. Cat Ivins is the designer behind these cute creations. Cat takes cork and makes different trickents out of it. This Save the Bee’s Ring is one of them. I love it because it is adorable, the detail is amazing and also because honey is still a controversy in the Vegan world. Some believe it is okay to consume honey and others don’t.
The wooden box and metal is sustainable as well. She also has a magnet that comes with the box. This one is my favorite magnet, it has her logo on it!
“Cork is the bark of the cork oak tree. My cork is grown in managed forests in Portugal where the bark is carefully harvested, once every nine years, in a centuries-old tradition with hand tools and without fertilizers or pesticides; a process that ensures the forests will remain undamaged!” – Cat Ivins, Uncorked
Check out her Etsy store, Uncorked for more trendy items. She has everything from rings and necklaces to cuff-links.
Kortney Dylewski is an amazing artist and loves to paint on just about everything. Right now she has her hands painting on canvas, canvas shoes that is. I noticed these shoes and thought they were beautiful. I love how she has taken a bland pair of brown cork heels and has turned them into a masterpiece to wear!
You can check out more of the shoes she paints and other items at her Etsy store.
Kortney has great attention to detail. I have these shoes and she has really done an amazing job painting on these wedges.
These cork wedges speak for themselves! No need for many accessories when I am running around town in these!
People stare at my feet! 🙂 I don’t mind.
These are just a few examples of how cork can be and is trendy.
I encourage you to find your favorite vegan friendly, cork item and share with us on our Facebook Page! I would love to see what you can find.
