Faire Collection – Bringing High Fashion to Fair Trade
by KIM VILYUS
The double entendre in the name Faire Collection is completely intentional. Faire CEO Amanda Judge wants her fair-trade, hand-made collections to speak for themselves (Faire in French means “to make”). Her “wear the change you wish to see in the world” philosophy is one to admire and in her case to live by. Being one of the few fashion companies dedicated to responsibly sourced materials makes them stand out amongst the millions of companies only interested in high ROIs, but its really the beauty of the simple, classic items in their collection they produce that will catch your eye.
There is a great selection of animal-friendly jewelry, hats, and scarves that are made of natural fibers from plants and sustainably harvested seeds. One of the materials that they use often, tagua, comes from regenerative pods from the Palm tree. Many of the Vegan-friendly items come from Ecuador, and there is a convenient shop by country feature on the site for easy filtering. Shop Ecuador here.
While not every item on the site is Vegan-friendly, every piece provides the local artisans that were chosen to work with Faire with a path out of poverty. Faire has cut out the middle man helping the artisans reach profitable margins and they remain diligent in ensuring all materials are harvested and processed in an eco-friendly manner. For those of us that are dedicated to shopping consciously, this is a site to Bookmark. The lack of middle man means the prices are affordable, i.e. Vegan Chic without breaking the bank. One thing is for sure, you’re going to see a lot more Faire from us in the future!
